Book of the Month Progress and a Giveaway

Can it really be the end of January already??  And I'm just starting the quilt(s) for the Book of the Month, Bargello Quilts with a Twist!   But hey, I still have two days left!
http://www.amazon.com/dp/0896895971?tag=quiltfab-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=0896895971&adid=1C9NYARCP5ZJCFVZ8PQM
I finally gathered together some fabric last night, and chose a plan.  But now I'm not sure if I'll make one or two, with the second idea having one more fabric thrown in.

Here's the fabric for one,
and the proposed layout,

I liked it until I read 'avoid an entirely monochromatic selection unless you add black or white.  Try to include a zinger fabric.'  Not that monochromatic won't work....

So, in comes a zinger fabric.
and here's the proposed layout with a bit of yellow
Hmm, maybe better.  Which one do you like??

I really can't decide, so that's why I may make both.  I've got two days..

Now for the contest.  Leave me a comment as to which you prefer and why.  One lucky person will win this beautiful Ocean Mist, 1200 yd spool of Essential Egyptian cotton from Connecting Threads.
Duplicate entries will not be counted, and please, leave me your email if you are a no-reply blogger, otherwise, I can't reach you!  The contest is open until midnight Jan 31.  Thanks, and good luck!

Happy Quilting!

  1. Definitely add in the yellow fabric. Nothing adds zip, zing and zest to a quilt than a touch of yellow. . . . . Myra in downtown Fort Wayne, IN, USA

  2. I'm on the fence, I like fabrics for #1 but not the drawing. I like #2 drawing but not the fabrics with the zinger! But its a soft yellow so I'm going with #2, I don't think it will pull the eye too much. either way is going to be good.

  7. I like the second one with the yellow. The first quilt I made was a turning twenty that was going to be all blue, but my LQS owner insisted that I put some yellow into it, so I did 8 FQs of yellow and 12 of blue - turned out beautiful!! With the top all-blue one, you could substitute white for the lightest blue too. They will be beautiful!

  15. IMO the big patches of very dark blue are distracting. Can you use the very dark as one of the smaller patches? Perhaps a blue-with-yellow and a yellow-with-blue as transitions between all-blue and all-yellow?

    1. I agree with Nann regarding the very dark blue. It is very dominant in the design, but perhaps that is what you are wanting! I like the addition of the yellow.

  16. I like the lighter color added. I think it adds a great "twinkle".

  17. I also agree about the yellow, it's just enough to give it that pop we all look for. :)

  19. I like both color combos, although the yellow would ready make the quilt sing. I would love to see both finished. Both would be beautiful! I am amazed at all you get done. The thread is beautiful. I would love to win it. It would be perfect for a top I finished last year that has been sitting around waiting for me to quilt it. Have a great day!

  20. I really like the monochromatic. The yellow does not do anything but make a distraction to my eye.
Pattern like this is a very personal choice.

  21. I think I like the all blue one. Both are pretty though.

  23. I like the idea of adding another color to give it that extra zing. If you don't care for yellow, maybe an orange or lime would do the trick.

  24. Hmmmm... interesting.... I just read most of the comments and most peoplel like the yellow added. I don't like the one wtih the yellow at all. As soon as I look at that quilt, my eyes are drawn to the yellow and I just can't get past the yellow to really notice the design. i definitely like the one that is only shades of blue. Maybe a color not as contrasting as the yellow would work better - at least for me it would.
