Hoping to Sew

Tuesday, I added another project to my overflowing list--that of a border, in two slightly different versions.

 See the difference?

These are based on the work of Rita Hutchens, author of Totally Tubular.  I've always admired her work since I saw her on Simply Quilts many years ago.  She spoke at our guild Monday night, and I got the chance to take her Zigzags workshop.

What started as this
was cut and sewn to get the two different zigzag patterns seen above.  Awesome technique, huh?

I'm not quite done yet, as I need to make a couple more cuts, and sew a few more seams to get an actual border piece.  But they're almost done!  Then I'll need to design something for them to border.  Just when that will be is anyone's guess.

I was so hoping for a sew day today and tomorrow, but instead I'm making a last minute drive to my mom's, as she is not well.  Hopefully I'll be bringing her home with me so I don't have to take care of her long distance.

And I got this brilliant idea.  Since I'm driving, I can take my sewing machine!  Just need to pack up the three current projects:  the zigzag borders, the woodpile blocks
and the diamonds.

When she's sleeping, I'll be sewing!  What better way to pass the time.  Wish me luck on getting things done--I'll try to get some posts in on the progress.

Happy Quilting!

  1. THose are especially wonderful borders, Susan! I'll have to check into that book.

  2. I took a class from Rita on Totally Tubular...I found it very difficult to do probably because I was trying to help another quilter who could not keep up with the fast pace of the class and I probably missed something too. Your border is stunning and I love the wood pile!!

Thank you so much for just made my day!
