Any Ideas?

Working through the aqua scraps still, and came across these strip sets from a project long ago.

The longest one is 20", and they are all 7" across. Playing around with them, the interesting design above appeared.
What do you think? Go with it? Make up some more strip sets to make it bigger?

As is, there's certainly a modern bent to it. How about deep red as an angled strip? That certainly would make a statement! Hmm, but what to use for the vertical strips? Any suggestions?

Or do I scrap the whole idea, and start cutting up the strip sets? That would be a bummer, since together, this is almost a small quilt. As I look at the remaining pile of aqua scraps, I just might go the 'sew up some more' route.
There's certainly enough strips for that.

Leave me a comment of suggestions or what you would like to see. Thanks all and happy quilting!

  1. My first thought would be white as it would let the aqua strips shine. I like the idea of a punch of red in the split sections though.

  2. You have lots of scraps, I think I would make a few more sets and see from there where you want to go.

  3. What if you sewed more strips and take them vertical instead of horizontal?
With maybe a very thin line or flange of white between the v and the h?

  4. Unless you're making a mini, definitely go the "sew up some more" route. I mean, the strips are already cut for you, you might as well! Maybe you'll get some inspiration after you have some more strip sets made. I like the red slash idea but you don't have to make that decision yet, do you?

  5. Lovely strips and yes, red would be a good combo. I would go with a orange/red but that's me, love orange. With all those strips, larger quilt or place mats?

  6. I instantly see a strippy delectable mountain with the short sets on the sides and the taller "peaks" in the middle.

  7. So far, everyone has good suggestions! I'm thinking to make more sets, and if I have to cut into yardage for more strips, that's ok. This may become a modern abstract lap quilt.

  8. You have a lot of scraps in that same color. I am sure you can incorporate them and make something nice or just go with what you have started in the picture and maybe make a pillow? Pretty fabrics.

  9. Great look! I'm imagining sewing the strips together - eliminating the vertical stripes and accenting the v shape with the red. Perhaps a darker aqua strip as vertical strips if it would look strange sewing the sets together. Whatever you do, I know it will look awesome.

  11. It's definitely worth making more and it will be a great way to use leftovers. Colour? It depends on the look you are aiming for, red will have a strong visual impact or green to tone in more, although you could always add in a flash of red as a focus point. Either way it has great potential.
