Quilters Meet and Greet Hop

Welcome to my stop on the Quilters Meet and Greet, hosted by Benita of Benita Skinner's Creative Space and Victoriana Quilt Designs. For those of you new to my little corner of the quilt world, pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee, and prepare to spend some time. There's lots to see -

First, a little about me. I've been quilting for over 15 years, acquiring an extensive stash, numerous tools, and an Innova longarm that helps to beautifully finish my quilts!

 When I'm not quilting, I'm off swimming or jogging, plus taking care of a husband, three kitties, and thirty orchids. There's also two sons, but they're out of the house now.

 So what inspired me to start quilting? Let's go back 20 years - The Quilt Show was on PBS, and Ruth B. McDowell was creating incredible quilts. The whole quilting world had exploded, with lots of new fabrics, books, and tools. Certainly time to jump in!

 And jump in I did! As a mostly self-taught quilter, I was encouraged to start blogging to share what I had learned and show what I made - QuiltFabrication was born.


 I've been asked to share my favorite quilt, which is super tough, cause I have many. So, I'm giving you my current top three:

 1. Patriotic Wave

 I'm a big fan of red/white/blue quilts, and the stripes, curve, and stars of this runner make it one of my favorites! It's also a favorite of lots of quilters, as the Patriotic Wave pattern is my #1 seller.

 2. Seafarer

This is for sure one of my favorite quilts, and was made for my son before he went off to the Peace Corps. Seafarer is incredibly popular with a pattern that includes baby, lap, and twin sizes, available at Etsy.

 3. Strawberry Splendor

 I just love the elegance of the strawberries and blossoms - it's hard to resist my favorite spring wall hanging, also available as the Strawberry Splendor pattern. 

 So there you have it, a brief intro to me, Susan, the quilter behind QuiltFabrication.

    Vicki and I are thinking alike -- my first thought was 30 orchids?! Do you have a greenhouse for them? I have one little mini orchid my kids gave me. It has blossomed once. I'm patiently waiting for it to do so again!

      They've kind of taken over any available bright window spot. Eight in the kitchen, 4 in the dining room, 4 in the studio, 3 in a bathroom, 4 in a bedroom, 7 in another bathroom. I water them once a week with a weak concoction of Hormex, and orchid fertilizer. And the majority live in bark, not moss. I'm waiting for the blooms to die off on those in moss before I transplant them to bark. Otherwise, I water them, and leave them alone. It's really my sister that inherited the green thumb.
      As for yours, give it some fertilizer and when there's a 10-15 degree temp change between day and night, it should bloom again.

    Picking a favorite is so tough, isn't it? When I first was reading through your list of other 'doings', I read orchards instead of orchids. Ummm, makes a difference! I'm going to have to browse back through your blog to find pics of those! I really like the clean look of your quilts -- the Strawberry Splendor is really eye-catching! :)

    Those are all three great choices, Susan! I really love the strawberry splendor!! I tried to keep an orchid once or twice - never could get them to bloom again! My mom and grandmother could put a stick in the ground and make it bloom. For me, not so much...a year later it's STILL a stick! LOL

    Hi again! Of course I just clicked on Home to see if there was a more recent post and here it is! I just love these introductions. I have benefitted from your quilting tutorials, videos and tips, and I thank you for that! I don't remember The Quilt Show (darn it) - I got hooked with Eleanor Burns. PBS really offered some great shows! ~smile~ Roseanne

    I fell behind this week,so I'm just getting to your post. I always enjoy your tutorials and think your quilting is inspired. And I learned something new about you -the orchids. I have 8 of them and only one has not rebloomed (yet). I have one that has hardly ever not been blooming. It should really be repotted, but I'm afraid I'll jinx it! Thanks for the weekly linky, too. It's fun to see what other's are creating.
