Guess Who's Off to Houston!

Yep - I'm heading to Houston this fall for the International Quilt Festival - my very first time! And guess what? Mediterranean Rose is headed there too!

Mediterranean Rose quilt by QuiltFabrication

A couple months ago, on a total whim, I entered Mediterranean Rose into the American Traditions exhibit for the Houston show. I'm usually not one to enter into a lot of shows, mainly because of shipping quilts, but for this one, I thought why not enter and see what happens.

Well, my first indication that Mediterranean Rose was juried in was a phone call from one of the show directors, asking if I had shipped my quilt.        Wait - what??
Turns out I hadn't received the congratulatory entry email and the quilt was supposed to be in Houston by May 31, and here it was June. Oops!

To further complicate matters, the quilt has been hanging at the local fair for the last two weeks, and it wouldn't come home until today. Fortunately, the quilt delivery delay to Houston was noted and approved. Seems pretty early to ship for a show in late October, but maybe they want to be sure all the quilts are there.

Once I knew Mediterranean Rose was in, the hunt for flights and accommodations ensued. Most hotels were booked, but I managed to get the last room in a place close to the convention center - phew! Having my quilt in such a large, well-known quilt show requires that I attend - and so I will!

More quilt show posts to come in November!

Happy Quilting!

  5. Congratulations! You'll enjoy the show. It's huge and the vendor area is one whole end of the convention center. I've been several times (have family in Houston area), but have only been able to spend a day at a time, and you just can't see it all in one day.

  8. Congratulations, Susan! How exciting and what an honor. I am sure that the size of the show is the biggest reason for early shipment. There are so many details to put together in such a large show as that. I live in Houston and hope to see you there!

  11. Well Deserved! I do hope you do a pattern for this quilt! I love it - especially your colors. You will love Houston, wear comfy clothes, and very comfortable shoes. It is a massive show! It takes 4 days to do the entire show. Glad you got a room. I have been thinking about going! We are only 200 miles from Houston!
