Getting Closer to the Top

Last week I had strip sets to make blocks. Then there were a ton of HST's. Together, with some border strips, they'll make a quilt top.

Use It Up quilt top progress

I have to admit, this is not one of my favorite quilts to put together. Making 164 HST's,

half square triangles

while minimizing the use of an iron because of 95+ temps,

wooden iron for seam pressing
                                                 wooden iron

is not my idea of fun. This Use It Up quilt is taking FOREVER! And it's not a particularly large quilt either - there's just a lot of parts. But the end is near, and I'm hoping to get this top on the quilt frame this week. More to come!

Happy Quilting!

  1. It is looking really good; perhaps because of your diligence?

  2. It is looking great, but I agree....too many HSTs. ☺

  3. Those HSTs are way too much work, but they do make a beautiful quilt. I just trimmed eight HSTs yesterday that were 10" squares. I whined about those! LOL This quilt will be amazing!

  4. Hi Susan! 164 HSTs! Ugg. That is definitely one time when I keep a countdown, and check my numbers frequently. And 95 temps for you??!! That's NUTS. This has an interesting design - I like to sit down and just enjoy it for a while. I'm sure you'll be sharing a finish with us by Friday . . . maybe?? Yup, that's my guess. Thanks so much for linking up today. ~smile~ Roseanne

  5. Uuugghhhh, I feel your pain, but it's going to be worth it! Thanks for linking up to What I Made Monday.

  6. The HSTs are a big job..... but I love this quilt so far. The middle panel is somehow extremely fascinating to let the eye rove all over. Wishing you more clement weather.

  7. I love the colors of your quilt top, very striking. The gold fabric is perfect pop of color. I hope you have been able to finish it up and get it on the frame.

Thank you so much for just made my day!
