A Special Seafarer

A wonderful email popped into my inbox last week and I just have to share.

Introducing Blake, age 9, maker, quilter, and quilt-show-winner of my Seafarer quilt!

His mom, Meg, sent me the following message:

Hello,

My 9 year old son Blake just finished making the Seafarer quilt. He even quilted it himself! He loves to sail and so did his great-grandfather who had a sailboat called the Appleknocker. It had a big apple on the sail, so my son put one on his quilt's sailboat.

My son just entered his quilt in the Youth division and he won youth excellence in quilting! He is so excited and can't wait to start his next project. I hope you enjoy this picture of him and his quilt.

Seeing the happiness on his face, knowing that he had made and quilted the entire quilt plus putting his own loving touch on it with the apple as a tribute to his great-grandpa - it brought tears to my eyes! Way to go Blake!!

When I followed up, his mom sent me a couple more pictures, one of great-grandpa's boat, and one of Blake sailing.

She also tells me that Blake is a scout and loves camping, so his next quilt challenge will be Gone Camping. Blake, I can't wait for the email and picture!

Happy Quilting!

Artist Palette for May 2026 Quilt Block Mania

This month, we're going to explore our artistic side as the Quilt Block Mania theme is art. To help us with this endeavor, I'm sharing an Artist Palette quilt block.

And just look at all of these art themed blocks to get us going!

And here's the links to all:

Colored Pencils by Carolina Moore
Crayon Block by Scrapdash
Mini Iron by Inquiring Quilter
Craft Paint Bottles
Artist Palette by QuiltFabrication
Draw Block by Tamarinis
Painted Pots by Patti's Patchwork
Gradation Quilt Block
Paint Splatter by Appliques Quilts and More
Still Life With Pear by Flowerdog&Co
Stained Glass Star

The Artist Palette block requires fat quarters of beige, teal, blue and various scraps, plus a bit of fusible web. Once all the pieces are cut out, it's fun to assemble this palette - makes me want to start painting! For fun, you could even color theme the dots. So many opportunities on this one!

The Artist Palette block is a free download pattern until June 1. In downloading the pattern, you agree to not share the file with others, but direct them to the QuiltFabrication.com/Artist Palette post - thank you! Now go ahead and click on the download button below for the PDF file.

Dominoes for Apr 2026 Quilt Block Mania

This month, the Quilt Block Mania theme is games. One of my favorite games to play with family is Mexican Train, an easy domino game for many players. My Dominoes block is just a small snippet of that larger game.

How about all of these other game themed blocks to go along with it?

And here's the links to all, though they may not be free anymore:

Chess Pieces by Carolina Moore
Quilt Games
Quilters Bingo by Inquiring Quilter
Tangrams
Dominoes by QuiltFabrication
Quilty Games by Studio B Quilt
Checkmate! by Patti's Patchwork
Tic Tac Toe by Appliques Quilts and More
Game Time Quilt Block
Triple Score by Tamarinis

Dominoes requires fat quarters of black, blue, and white, plus a bit of fusible web. This one requires some very easy fusible applique, along with the super easy piecing. This will stitch up in a jiffy!

The Dominoes block is currently unavailable. I'll let you know if it comes back again.

Rainy Day for Mar 2026 Quilt Block Mania

This month, the Quilt Block Mania theme is rain, and I'm giving you just that -

a Rainy Day.

Where I am in CA, January was warm and dry. Then the rains came in buckets in February, and now the bulbs are blooming. I just love where these daffodils popped up!

And now we're back to warm and dry. Such crazy weather!

Sorry that I don't have the other rain themed block links - the hostess is a busy lady! But I'm still forging ahead with sharing my block so that you can enjoy it for the month of March.

Now onto the block details. Rainy Day requires fat quarters of green, blue, gold, and yellow, but you can make the flower any color you want. The raindrops are paper pieced, with all four paper templates included, ready for stitching. This makes a great pattern for learning the paper piecing technique if you're not already familiar with it. And the rest is simple stitch-n-flip sewing. Easy peasy!

The Rainy Day block is a free download pattern until April 6. In downloading the pattern, you agree to not share the file with others, but direct them to the QuiltFabrication.com/Rainy Day post - thank you! Now go ahead and click on the download button below for the PDF file.

Love Stamp Feb 2026 Quilt Block Mania

It's February, the month of love and Valentine's Day. It's also time for the new 'mail' Quilt Block Mania theme. Combining the two, I've designed a special heart themed stamp block to send some love!

Check out all of these other 'mail' themed quilt blocks:

And here's the links to all:

Heart Stamp by Carolina Moore
Love Letters by Scrapdash
Love Letter by Inquiring Quilter
Postage Scale by Appliques Quilts and More
Love Stamp by QuiltFabrication
Postage Stamp Sampler by The Quilted Diary
Special Delivery from Studio B
Corner Mailbox by Patti's Patchwork
First Class Mail
Mailbox by Due North Handmade

Love Stamp requires fat quarters of grey, reds or pinks, plus black and white. Don't forget the fusible web! A light box is definitely handy but a bright window will do for all the tracing.

The Love Stamp block is a free download pattern until March 2. In downloading the pattern, you agree to not share the file with others, but direct them to the QuiltFabrication.com/Love Stamp post - thank you! Now go ahead and click on the download button below for the PDF file.

Falling Snow for Jan Quilt Block Mania

It's January.

It's winter.

Therefore, there must be snow! Yes, that's the theme for Quilt Block Mania this month and I've made up this enchanting Falling Snow block. It's a great way to think about snow without having to deal with it!!!

We all got creative this month - check out all of these snow themed blocks:

And here's the links, available for free Jan 2026 only.

Snowy Scene by Carolina Moore
Sparkling Snowflake
Winter Hat by Crafty Staci
Snow by Inquiring Quilter
Snow Angel Quilt Block
Snowflakes w/letters by Appliques Quilts and More
Snowman by Memory Barn Studio
Snowman by Katie Mae Quilts
Falling Snow by QuiltFabrication
Snowflake by The Quilted Diary
Build a Snowman by Tamarinis
Snow Drift by Studio B
Frosted Branches by Tourmaline & Thyme Quilts
Strings Attached by Patti's Patchwork

Falling Snow requires fat quarters of blue and white, plus a bit of fusible web. Using a ruler when cutting helps to make crisp edges, but freehand the cutting works for a more organic look. Either way, enjoy the Falling Snow!

The Falling Snow block is a free download pattern until Feb 2. In downloading the pattern, you agree to not share the file with others, but direct them to the QuiltFabrication.com/Falling Snow post - thank you! Now go ahead and click on the download button below for the PDF file.
