Quick Fold Over Binding

Quick fold over binding - when backing becomes the binding too! Of course, this technique requires that there be enough backing fabric (about an inch) to fold over to the front. Fortunately, this quilt had plenty!

This technique also requires careful batting trimming and squaring of the quilt, and I found it easiest to pin the backing upon itself to keep it from getting nicked.

Create the binding

After the batting trimming and squaring of the quilt is complete, trim the excess backing to 3/4" from the edge of the quilt.

Fold over once, so that the edge meets the edge of the quilt.

Fold once more over the quilt edge, pinning in place.

Fold for the corner

Next, fold in the corner so that the top folded edge lines up with the cut edge of the quilt.

Create the corner and adjoining side

Fold that edge once more, over the edge of the quilt, pinning in place.

Fold Over Binding - fold side againI now have a beautifully mitered corner!  Either hand or machine stitch the binding, whichever works.

Here's the finished stitched corner.

Happy Quilting!
