Irish Chain Twist

Look at the pretty pink flowers in the yard! My Irish Chain Twist QAL, from HappyQuiltingMelissa, looks like it just belongs on the fence, as part of the yard decoration.

Such a beauty!

Quilting is really hard to see on this one,

but to start, everything is stitched in the ditch. There are seeds are in the green squares, echoed petals, nothing extra in the blue chains, and the background is made of loops.

This is the cute pink bird backing, which shows a bit more of the quilting.
Thread colors were pink for the petals, green for the seeds, white in the bobbin, and white for the background quilting. And though I love black and white prints, I do find them difficult to work with when choosing a thread color! For the black on white prints, I'd choose white thread, and probably black for the white on black prints. But what to do for those that are black/white balanced? Guess it comes down to how much the color should show. Tough decision!

And did anyone notice that the quilt appears stuck to the fence?
Well, it is! I have to give a big thank you to Yvonne at QuiltingJetGirl for the terrific temporary hanging idea! Worked like a charm! I'm now testing the technique on a small wall hanging in the studio. Hope it lasts for a while, until I decide where to put it permanently.

Even if you didn't participate in the QAL, Melissa has all of the instructions on her site to make one of these beauties. Check it out!

Have a great time quilting!

  6. Your quilt turned out beautiful! I had planned to take part in the quilt-a-long but I've got so many projects on the go right now that I decided to wait until I have some of those finished.
