Upcoming Quilt Festivities

Get out those calendars and take some notes! There's a bunch of fun, online festivities hosted by fellow quilters coming up in the next few weeks. I'll start the list with my special dog-themed linky party I'm hosting on Thursday, August 26.

Yup, you got it - this one is for the dogs! August 26 is National Dog Day, and how better to celebrate than with adorable pups! Grab the button code on the sidebar to help spread the word.

Since all dogs need to be trained, the 'commands' for this dog-themed linky party are simple:

  • create a NEW dog-themed post about any or all of the following:
           a beloved tail-wagging fur-baby dog
           a new dog-themed project
           a past dog-themed project

Just make sure it's a new post and about dogs - it is their day after all! If you're a cat lover, you'll just have to wait this one out. In the meantime, start thinking about your post for October 29 when it's National Cat Day.

Two other upcoming quilty events happen on the same day - August 16th. That's a good day, as it's our 35th wedding anniversary - how time has flown!

First up is the Block Base Plus Sew Along linky party for all of the finished quilts. There were so many participants in this sew along that I can't wait to see how they all turned out! Mine quilt is almost done, with just the binding to go. Here's a sneak peek of the quilting, with my full reveal coming this Friday.

Turns out there are two events happening on the same day, making me choose when to post about each one. That puts the Block Base Plus reveal on Friday Aug 13, ready for the linky party, allowing me to share my project for Creatin' In the Sticks Orange You Glad blog hop on kickoff day, Monday, Aug 16.

I'm revealing just a tiny bit about my orange creation. After making quarter square blocks for the Block Base quilt, I got quite attached to the ease of cutting and sewing them using the Crafters Edge quarter square cutting die.

Not only will my Orange You Glad project feature quarter square blocks, but it also received mini-size inspiration from a new quilt book, Scrappy Improve Quilting by Kelly Young. The link goes to My Quilt Infatuation's Etsy shop, where you can get a signed copy.

Starting in September, there will be a blog hop featuring several quilts from the book. I'll be stitching up my version of Fall Foliage to share on October 6th, though I'm tempted to make a couple other of Kelly's patterns - they're mini and they're cute!

Sandwiched in with all of that quilty goodness is the Falling For You blog hop, hosted by Moosestash Quilting. Between Fall Foliage, the Falling hop, plus the Ghastly Ghouls hop in October, it looks like I'll be making a few new fall themed items this year.

Mark those calendars so as not to miss out on all the quilt festivities!

Happy Quilting!
