Midweek Makers #428

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

As promised a few weeks ago, here's two more scrap shoe box blocks for the purples of March RSC2024. One is full of fuchsias (red-purple) and the other light and medium value purples.

With a bit more sorting, I may make one more shoe box before the month is over, maybe one with those hard to use prints. We shall see.

Last week's party had so many awesome projects! So hard to choose, but here were my favorites:

from Bastelhexe's Creative, these two tops that shimmer with jewel tones,

Sew Preeti Quilts with Lula May full of bright batiks on black,

and from Scrapbox Quilts, the finally finished Ohio Stars in autumn colors.

Puppy Love

I'm celebrating National Puppy Day today with a new block, Puppy Love!

Isn't that just adorable? Who doesn't love puppies???

In case you weren't aware, March 23 is National Puppy Day. All these years I've spent celebrating national holidays for dogs, cats, even watermelons, and this one escaped me too. But now I know to celebrate puppies on March 23!

Because puppies are so cute, this celebration pulled at my heart. So I set out to design a quilt block that used an applique puppy and a big red heart. My first ideas had the cute puppy, but the heart needed work. Once I decided to applique that too, the whole adorable Puppy Love quilt block fell into place!

Seems I'm slowly designing dog themed blocks. Add this one to the Dog Bone and Dog House blocks and eventually I'll have another quilt!

Now, if you've read this far, I have a special treat for all you dog lovers out there. Puppy Love is available as a free pattern download from now, March 23 (Puppy Day) until midnight April 1, 2024. Just click on the download button below.

In downloading the pattern, you agree not to share the file with others, but direct them to the QuiltFabrication.com/Puppy Love post - thank you!

Midweek Makers #427

Welcome to Midweek Makers! Let's do some sharing!

My RSC scrap block making got sidelined due to quilting Julia's fantastic quilt.

She participated in a block of the month using salmon pinks and soft greens. We chose to quilt it with the very light pink Glide Cotton Candy and the Daisy Play pantograph. A perfect combo for this very sweet quilt!

And these quilters finished some beauties last week. With Strings Attached shared her Nine Patch Pinwheel,

Time 4 Stitchin showed us her triumphant finish of a 9 patch Wonder,

and Gretchen's Little Corner shared an Anniversary flimsy.

All three quilts had a LOT of small squares - well done!

Midweek Makers #426

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Here we are, the middle of March - Happy St Patrick's Day this weekend! Too bad  the RSC2024 March color choice is purple not green, but it is what it is. Regardless, I happily dove into my purple scraps, this time making a tall scrap storage box, switching up the color of the lid lock.

I picked out the red-violet purples for this block, because this is the color I think of when someone says 'purple'. Technically, 'purple' is in between red-violet and fuchsia (a more red purple) on the color wheel.

I've still got plenty of scraps that lean toward purple and fuchsia, and of course, high contrast prints which are always hard for me to use in scrap blocks. Seems those always call attention to themselves! So a couple more blocks are in the works.

There were some awesome quilts last week - very hard to choose the three features! But here they are:

from Alycia Quilts, a lovely new patriotic pattern, Stars Like Spaghetti,

Crafts, Cavies, and Cooking shared this fun and colorful quilt top,

and Songbird Designs popped in to show her Hawaiian shirt baby quilt.

Midweek Makers #425

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

I am now finished with red for February RSC2024, making a shoebox block of red and white scrap prints to go with the larger scrap boxes.

I also found a few red half-square triangles to stitch into broken dishes blocks, along with a red strip block from a previous project.

And wouldn't you know, hiding in the HST bag was a stack of little green half square triangles, so I stitched up more broken dishes. These measure 3 1/2".

I think I'm ready to move on to purple, the March RSC2024 color. Probably won't have many broken dishes blocks with that color!

Now for features from last week - take a look at these fun projects:

Grace and Peace Quilting shared a very fun t-shirt quilt made by client,

Little Penguin Quilts made herself a very adorable penguin tote bag,

and Not Afraid of Color is really showing off her creativity - this sunflower piece is just one of several on her post.

Pop Top or Longneck Block for March Quilt Block Mania

Welcome! Make yourself comfortable and feel free to grab a drink - do you prefer a Pop Top or Longneck?

When the theme of 'drinks' came up for this month, I immediately thought of our favorite BBQ party song - Drinking Again by Luke Bryan. In the song, he describes all sorts of reasons for having another drink, with 'pop top and longneck' as part of the song's refrain. To my surprise, this month's creative quilt block designers came up with a wide variety of drinks to satisfy that desire to drink again. Maybe they were channeling the song too. Take a look - there are 27 'drink' themed blocks this month!

And here's the list of the creators behind these refreshing beverages - be sure to thank them for serving up some delicious refreshments this month!

Champagne Quilt Block by Carolina Moore
Martini by Crafty Staci
You Shake Me Up
Scrappy Mug by Katie Mae Quilts
Pina Colada by Appliques Quilts and More
Cosmopolitan by Inquiring Quilter
Cups and Saucers
Bubble Tea by Inflorescence Designs
Beer Pong by Patti's Patchwork
Perfect Flying Geese
Bear Loves Cocoa by Colette Belt Designs
Coffee Bean by Sewistry
Sip & Stitch by Happy Hour Stitches
I'm a LIttle Teapot
Bit too Much by Epida Studio
Tupperware Pitcher by Cristy Fincher
Ice Cubes by Create with Claudia
Cherry by Slightly Biased Quilts
Tea for Me by Craftapalooza Designs
French Press by Oh Kaye Quilting
Sew Fresh FPP Block by San Diego Sewn
Cheerwine by Emerald Falls Quilts
Release the Kraken by Art Quilts by Design
But First Coffee by Paleofish Designs
Margarita by Sallys Sewing Circle
Iced Lemonade by Patchwork Breeze

Though Pop Top or Longneck looks complicated, it's really quite easy to put together. The stitch and flip technique is used to advantage, along with straight line seams - it's perfect for the beginner quilter. One could even add some embroidery on the labels. So grab some fat quarters or scraps and get to making your own 12" x 12" finished block!

The free period is over for Pop Top and Longneck, though you can find the pattern in my Etsy Shop.
