Midweek Makers #398

Welcome to Midweek Makers - let's do some sharing!

My share this week is about two recent blogging events, Bloglovin and Blogger.

First, Bloglovin. For years, this was my favorite blog following service, which has once again started sending a daily blog digest to my inbox. I totally thought this service was dead. Maybe it still is, but it makes me happy to quickly see what my favorite bloggers are up to. Keeping my fingers crossed it continues.

Second, Blogger. Yes, QuiltFabrication is hosted by Blogger, ie Google Domains. Squarespace Domains has formulated an agreement to purchase all Google Domain names, which means my domain name will now be owned by Squarespace. They claim the yearly domain price won't increase, but eventually I'm sure that will change. I'm hoping that that's all that will change. We shall see.

Now onto some happy yellow shares from last week!

From Little Penguin Quilts, yellow blocks for RSC2023,

from DonnaleeQ, some pretty yellow table toppers,

and from Not Afraid of Color, this gorgeous sunflower.

Can't wait to see the shares at this week's party - come link up!

National Dog Day 2023

Welcome all dog lovers! It's National Dog Day, the day to celebrate dogs!

It's also that yearly linky party to share about your dog. So if your post is about dogs, either in fur or fabric, come link up at the bottom of the post. But first, let's get to the giveaways!

Though I don't have dogs of my own, I do have grandpuppies. That would be Po, my son's dog that he got when he was in the Peace Corp in Paraguay, and Tito, his fiance's dog. Aside from being adorable, they are loving and well-trained pups!

In honor of these two, I'm giving away one copy of my Puppy Tales quilt block, complete with bandanas. Just enter via Rafflecopter below.

Because these two are well trained, they are rarely in the dog house. Though, to calm Tito's anxiety when they're away, he spends time in a crate. Probably the indoor version of the dog house. So, to go with these 10" block puppy appliques, here's my Dog House quilt block.

One lucky quilter can win a copy of the Dog House quilt block pattern, which comes in three block sizes: 8", 10", 12". Just enter via Rafflecopter.

And of course, a dog needs a bone to chew on! To complete a dog theme quilt, enter to win this multi-sized Dog Bone pattern using the Rafflecopter below.

The giveaways are open till midnight Thursday, August 31. Please be sure to provide your email so that I can send you the pattern. Good luck everyone - now onto those puppies! Let's see 'em!

Midweek Makers #397

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

First up is a big thank you to everyone for the anniversary wishes. The winner of the Wedding Chapel quilt block was Nancy, who is also celebrating 37 years - congrats!

And I actually did some sewing last week! My back issue was calm enough to allow it, and boy, have I missed creating. Since the National Dog Day linky party is August 26, I thought I'd make a Dog House block to honor the occasion.

The pattern comes in three sizes, 8", 10", and 12", with the 8" and 12" shown above. And they were so easy! Find the Dog House pattern in my Etsy shop, and be sure to stop by on Saturday, August 26 for a chance to win a free copy and warm your heart with puppy pictures.

So let's look at few quilt related pretties from last week's party:

Patchouli Moon Studios appliqued a lovely balloon on one of her fabulous purses,

Vicki's Crafts and Quilting appliqued an adorable fox onto a t-shirt,

and Den syende himmel made some colorful pin cushions.

Midweek Makers #396

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Notice the bride and groom kitties above? They're helping hubby and I celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary today. We're splurging on a sushi dinner tonight, which I'm sure the kitties would appreciate.

It's been years since we exchanged gifts for anniversaries, but that doesn't mean I can't give you a gift. Since we got married in a little white church, I'm giving away to one lucky quilter my Wedding Chapel quilt block.

To enter, just answer two easy questions via Rafflecopter, below. The winner will be sent a PDF pattern via email, so make sure I can reach you. Contest is open till midnight, August 19, the same as the linky party. Good luck!

Now on to the party! How about this adorable butterfly mini from Melva Loves Scraps?

And the very creative LeeAnna from Not Afraid of Color has done it again with these clever dress blocks,

while Rebecca Grace Quilting shared a fantastic client quilt.

Before we start the party this week, remember the National Dog Day linky party is August 26 - start working on your dog-themed posts!

Dog Day Coming Soon!

For all the dog lovers out there, National Dog Day is August 26!

Which means we'll be celebrating our favorite fur baby - DOGS! This themed linky party is now in it's third year, and due to a great response, it's now a yearly event. I, and I'm sure you too, can't resist seeing everyone's adorable puppy, real or in fabric, once again this year!

Grab the button code below, write it into a post or put it on your sidebar to help spread the word about this dog-gone fun event!

grab button for Nat Dog Day
<div class="nat-dog-day-button" style="width: 150px; margin: 0 auto;"> <a href="https://www.quiltfabrication.com/" rel="nofollow"> <img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5gW2GyKns-3NRQJygfPImdFV0Oc2nhjIKhEqH72nMeUyOXHtER5pGU_Bc4fq5mnp9AHJCO5SJA9Iu4vQ3GfS5SjJXm3aYtATM44pyN1WMB4CMOaoaixjmX6pbiwTYsZszBiRWI4po9_A/s0/Natl-Dog-Day-Linky-Party150.jpg" alt="Quiltfabrication" width="150" height="150" /> </a> </div>

Since all dogs need to be trained, the 'commands' for this dog-themed linky party are simple:

  • create a NEW dog-themed post about any or all of the following:
           - your beloved tail-wagging, fur-baby pup
           - a new dog-themed project your working on
           - a past dog-themed project
           - anything with a dog theme you would like to share

Just make sure it's a new post and about dogs - it is their day after all! And just like last year, there will be giveaways!

WOOF!

Happy Quilting!

Midweek Makers #395

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

The last few weeks of summer vacation are upon us, which is all the more reason to hit the beach! Go there in person, or dream about those lazy beach days with my Beach Boardwalk quilt. It certainly puts me in the mood!

roller coaster, beach houses, sailboats on a quilt

How about these finishes from last week?
Gretchen's Little Corner shared her Lady Jane quilt, and what a beauty!

Canadian Needle Momma is busy hand quilting her Solidarity top,

and Kathleen McMusing shared two celebratory table runners that were easy to make due to the fabric print!

Nicely done everyone!

Before we launch into this week's party, I need some feedback. I noticed all of the linky party thumbnails were not shown on the MM#394 post, making me click on the InLinkz button to view the entries.

Is this happening for everyone else? Personally, I like to see all the entries right on my post, without having to click through. This change makes me rethink Midweek Makers, unless everyone is ok with clicking through to see the entries. Let me know what you think!

And now for this week's party!
  • please share a quilt related item
  • please link directly to your post
  • share the comment love!
Have fun!

Happy Watermelon Day!

Every year on August 3, a whole day is devoted to that favorite, refreshing, summertime fruit - watermelon! Yes, it's National Watermelon Day!

red watermelon slices for National Watermelon Day

It's peek season for watermelon, and last year I decided to go beyond individual slice enjoyment to taste-testing a few watermelon themed recipes. Here's a recap of our celebration!

The first dish is a refreshing Watermelon Feta Salad

watermelon cucumber onion feta salad from delish.com

This recipe is super easy and delicious! Who knew that chunks of watermelon, cucumber, red onion, and mint topped with an olive oil and red wine vinegar dressing would combine for a surprisingly tasty salad. I know I'll be making this salad again!

Fruit infused waters are all the rage these days, so I thought I'd give Watermelon-Basil infused water a try. Another recipe that's super simple, requiring just a cup of cubed watermelon, 2-3 sprigs of basil, and 4 cups of cold water. Put into a pretty pitcher to chill and infuse, then enjoy a delightful drink topped with a few chunks of watermelon and basil leaves.

Add a few more picnic staples to feed a hungry crowd, laid out on the Watermelon Delight quilt for a picturesque watermelon themed picnic!

What a feast of fried chicken, watermelon feta salad, and carrots, all the while sipping watermelon basil water!

The day of celebration didn't stop there. Soon, we starting prepping for dinner, with more watermelon dishes of course!

For dinner, the menu leads off with a watermelon and cucumber gazpacho, a recipe I found in the Sunday newspaper. With all of the ingredients on hand, I set to work making this twist on a favorite cold soup to give it plenty of time to chill.

After a couple hours, we couldn't resist sneaking a taste - WOW! Watermelon gazpacho definitely got a thumbs up!

The main course consisted of grilled chicken-watermelon tacos. I used rotisserie chicken, warmed corn and flour tortillas, and a watermelon salsa from goodhousekeeping.com.

Just look at that mouth watering chicken/watermelon salsa taco, topped with queso fresco, and accompanied by a watermelon strawberry margarita! Yummy!!

Since this was dinner, we sat at the table, enjoying the view of the Watermelon Twist table runnerNothing like a runner full of red watermelon slices to keep with the theme!

What a way to celebrate - Happy Watermelon Day!

Peekaboo Clown for August Quilt Block Mania

For Quilt Block Mania this month, the circus is in town! And my Peekaboo Clown is peeking around the curtain, ready to get the show started!

Clowns are just one part of a circus - take a look at all the other parts with these blocks from my fellow quilt designers:

They're free for the month - get them before they're gone!

The Peekaboo Clown pattern includes a template to print out, increasing the size by the standard 200%. There's even printer setup instructions to make enlarging super simple. Then just tape the pages together, using the REVERSE of the template for tracing, and the print side for placement. Pretty easy!

Then grab some fat quarters or scraps, fusible web, and your favorite thread to applique all the block parts. If you're new to applique, this is a great block to get started with.

Thank you for visiting though the Peekaboo Clown block is currently unavailable - I'll keep you posted when he pops out again!

Feel free to tell others about QuiltFabrication and become a follower yourself through any or all of the following: direct delivery of posts to your inbox (sign up below), or by following on PinterestInstagramFacebook, or YouTube.

Happy Quilting!
