Inspired and made for Just Let Me Quilt's It's a Guy Thing Blog Hop

Monster Truck Jam features three different monster trucks racing over dirt hills -  I think I've designed a quilt to please a lot of guys!

Of course, I'm not the only one stitching with men in mind. Please visit these other creatives showing off their guy-themed projects today.

 July 30

Though I love all of my trucks, this truck, called Piper, is my favorite! It really made me say 'Oh! This is just too cute' after both designing it and stitching it up.

I seriously had a ton of fun designing these monster trucks, and have decided to make them available in my QuiltFabrication Etsy shop as a individual stand-alone block patterns. Along with Piper

there's also Crusher,

orange monster truck quilt block

and Hatch.

Instructions include all diagrams, sewing techniques, and cutting charts for fat quarter friendly 15" x 11" finished blocks, suitable for a confident beginner quilter. They would be great as a pillow or set with even more trucks for a totally different quilt.

These trucks and hills complete my twin size quilt for a 66" x 85" finish, making it a perfect addition to any truck lover's bed. Seriously, it's all about the trucks!

Not only does it looks great on a twin bed, I love this draped photo which amplifies the angles of the trucks.

Using the same blocks, I've also designed a 56" x 75" lap size, and a 45" x 58" crib size for the little ones. The full Monster Truck Jam pattern for all three sizes is now available. Stitch up some trucks for that guy in your life!

Happy Quilting!

Welcome to Midweek Makers! I'm putting the final touches on my project for Just Let Me Quilt's It's a Guy Thing blog hop going on this week. Here's another sneak peek of one of my blocks.

I'm pretty excited about this quilt and can't wait to show off the whole thing on Friday - see you then.

Thank you all for answering! And if you haven't already done so, be sure to enter the giveaway for the Seasons of Life Quilt book giveaway - contest ends tomorrow night!

Now let's check out these full-of-rainbow-color projects seen last week.

Seasons of Life Quilt Book Giveaway!

Thanks again to C&T Publishing, I'm having another giveaway today! This one is for all the quilters who love applique and embroidery - it's the Seasons of Life Quilt book by Sandra L Mollon (affiliate link).

I'm including the affiliate link above so that you can check out some of the pages found in the book - Amazon does a great job of showing snippets of books.

The Seasons of Life book is contains 13 full size Baltimore Album block patterns that can be set in several ways for a beautiful quilt.

Here's a few layout ideas shown in the book:

Sandra goes over all the details needed for perfect applique: choosing fabrics, tools needed, applique techniques, and even making dimensional flowers. There's also a section of embroidery stitches, and using ink and colored pencils to that extra special shading to the blocks.

To enter to win the Seasons of Life Quilt book using the Rafflecopter widget below.

Giveaway is open till midnight Thursday, July 29, for continental US residents only (sorry Alaska, Hawaii, and international quilters). Winner will be announced at next weeks Midweek Makers.

Sneak Peeks!

I've been busy, busy, busy the last two weeks, designing, stitching, and quilting! Not to disappoint, I'm sharing a few sneak peeks of what I've been working on.

First up is a little snippet of a block I've designed for the Just Let Me Quilt's It's a Guy Thing blog hop, starting on Monday, July 26.

I was absolutely giddy when this block was done - it turned out so cute! Wish I could show more but you'll just have to wait till next Friday for the big reveal!

Next up is progress on the Block Base Plus Sew Along quilt. Now that all eight blocks are finished, I'm making sure I get this quilt done in time for the linky party on August 16.

I showed my progress last Friday, and cut more triangles to fill out the rest of the border with quarter square blocks. Thank goodness for the Crafters Edge Crossover II machine - it made cutting and sewing these triangles into blocks really easy!

In between these two projects, I had 5 quilts to quilt for a friend who is participating in the 70273 Project - read about it at www.The70273Project.org

A simple stipple in white thread was all that was needed to let those X's shine.

And now I need to return my focus to stitching and quilting since the Guy Thing project is not very far along. Nothing like a sprint to the deadline!!

Have a great weekend quilting!

Midweek Makers 289

Welcome to Midweek Makers! My share this week are a few blocks for RSC2021. This month color choice is brown, navy, or black. I opted for black, reversing the color scheme in the block from the usual black square surrounded by color.

We shall see how these fit in with the rest of them at the end of the year.

From the Midweek Makers party last week, there were several finishes, like this incredible Harry Potter quilt from Ulrikes Smaating,

this Star Cluster baby quilt from Scrapbox Quilts,

and this adorable Cabana quilt from Not Afraid of Color.

Also needing a mention is this drunkard's path flimsy from Karen's Quilting.

Now it's your turn - come join the party!

Dazzling New York Beauty Sampler

C&T Publishing has been kind enough to send books my way for review, so let's take a look at the Dazzling New York Beauty Sampler book (affiliate link) by Cinzia White and have a little giveaway.

quilt book cover

Now, I always thought that the New York Beauty quilts had something to do with the Statue of Liberty. Sounds reasonable, as the blocks resemble the statue's crown.

Turns out, the block with it's distinctive curves and points originated in the Southern United States. It was only after Mountain Mist released a block pattern by the New York Beauty name, plus several winning quilts using the block in the 1930's, that the block design and New York Beauty became synonymous. Check out this New York Beauty post from Willy Wonka Quilts to read more.

In the Dazzling New York Beauty Sampler book, there's certainly a lot more than one block design. This is, after all, a sampler quilt, with a total of 54 blocks. That would certainly keep one busy!

block list from a quilt book

The above picture is just an overview - head over to the Dazzling New York Beauty affiliate link to see further block detail, more than what I can provide here.

All of the blocks are foundation pieced, with full-size templates included. Cinzia even recommends using freezer paper for easy construction - my favorite!

Along with the instructions for making this beautiful quilt,

quilt with curves and spikes

there are also other ideas for table runners and wall hangings. There's so much one can do with a New York Beauty block.

Would you like to make a New York Beauty quilt? For one lucky reader, I'm giving away a copy of the Dazzling New York Beauty Sampler book. Contest is open to those in the continental US only (no Alaska, Hawaii, or international - sorry).

Enter now thru midnight, Thursday July 22 via the Rafflecopter widget. Winner will be announced at Midweek Makers next week.

Quarter Squares Triangles and Crafters Edge

I gave my Crafters Edge Crossover II machine a workout yesterday, cutting quarter squares triangles.

multi colored quarter square quilt blocks

The Crossover II plus the not-yet-released Quarter Square Triangle dies made cutting and sewing so easy! (BTW - the Crossover II machine is 25 percent off through the month of July - no coupon or code needed!)

different colored triangles

I'll admit that there was a bit of a learning curve on cutting for the most effective use of fabric. I first started out with strips,

cutting a triangle from a pink strip

but without proper planning, I was left with small triangle scraps. :(

Then I decided I'd cut squares to what I thought was a size to get four triangles.

triangles cut from a pink square

Notice how the dies edges in the middle of the square don't quite end at the fabric points. Which means I cut the square too small. :(

So, I ended up cutting three triangles from the square, with a smidge of a strip as scrap. At least the scrap strip makes me happier than the scrap triangle! :)

die cutting triangles

Of course, to avoid all of the math involved to cut four triangles, I should have just gone with a square, cutting just two triangles.

Fortunately, I didn't go wild on cutting squares, though I did cut enough for at least 20 quarter square blocks. The next couple of rounds, I'll know better! ;)

multi color quilt blocks

After all the cutting, sewing was a breeze! I paired up darks with lights to make a two triangle unit,

then paired those to make quarter square blocks.

They come out the perfect size and there's no trimming of dog ears needed - just press and go! That, my friends, is one of the time savers when using a die cutting machine - woohoo!

If any of these fabrics look familiar, they were all used in the Block Base Plus Sew Along blocks. Ultimately, they will form a border for this quilt, as seen below in the preliminary layout.

Now I'm off to cut another round of quarter square triangles since only one side of that border is made. Lots more quarter square blocks to make!

Happy Quilting!
