2021 Quilt Review

Goodness! It has been one busy year! And how better to spend the last day of 2021 with a review of quilts and quilt blocks created by me, QuiltFabrication?

Let's start off with quilts - we're talking lap size or larger. In total, there were five, spaced throughout the year. Three are of my original design,

while two were derivatives of other known blocks.

Next up are table runners, of which there are seven, with the majority of them in a seasonal theme.

There's also wall hangings - I've certainly enjoyed seeing them from my spot at the table!

And let's not forget about table toppers, those small little quilts for the table or to hang in a small space.

Along with all the quilted items, there were also a ton of block patterns. Some are available on the FREE page, and some in the QuiltFabrication Etsy shop. Below are the 12 blocks designed for Quilt Block Mania, the free block-a-month program,

and seven more blocks designed for various blog hops.

Yes, it was certainly a busy year! 2022 will be a bit calmer, as I'm taking a break from blog hops, and have decided not to continue being a member of the Crafters Edge Design Team. I want to make quilts when I'm inspired instead of trying to  meet a deadline - a big shift for me, and one that's needed.

With that, I wish you a Happy New Year, and of course, Happy Quilting!

Midweek Makers 312

Welcome to Midweek Makers! Who has something to share?

My share isn't quilt related this week, but it's what has been consuming a lot of my time for the last two weeks. We finished the relative's home, and for my son to rent, we have now bought a home from the original owner who passed away at 103. The house is fine, though it needs some work and updating, but the majority of the backyard is overgrown with ivy. Ugh.

Here's my son working on removing ivy from a tree (fig?) seen at the left of the picture,

and this is what it looks like now.

And behind those trees, are a couple trees even more filled with ivy. Yes, we're nuts and know this is going to take months and some heavy equipment, but it will be awesome when it's done!

Sorry about the linky party not working last week - must have been some little elves at work! They played with my calendar, but this week we'll be back to normal. Just link up what you're working on - you know the rules!

Have fun!

RSC2021 Quilt

Here it is, quilted and bound, the finished RSC2021 quilt, also known as the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2021 quilt.

quilt in a of rainbow squares

Comprised of finished 8" scrap blocks featuring a small scrap of black toward one block corner, the RSC2021 quilt finishes at approximately 56" x 64", making it a nice lap size.

Each month, I would make 4 blocks in the color chosen by SoScrappy, the RSC hostess. Fortunately, I just happened to make 4 dark and 2 light pink blocks in January, which gave me the right number blocks for the whole top. Subconscious pre-planning I suppose!

There is some order to how the blocks are arranged - I pulled them all out of the storage bin, leaving them in the order they were in though probably not by month. Then I put them on the design wall, following whatever color order was in my hand, and repeating the order till they were all up there.

That original order did leave some dark value concentrations, so I changed the order of one color, and worked in the two pinks. Quite frankly, I didn't spend a lot of time on the arrangement, trying not to over-think it!

For more interest, I also rotated the black squares so they weren't all in the same block corner. Having that black square jumping all over the quilt sure makes it playful!

As for the border, I managed to find a floral print with rainbow colors that worked really well, helping to increase the size of the overall quilt.

The quilting is the easy and open Happy Times, in a variegated thread, along with a soft backing. I do wish I had more of the floral print (at the top), though the filler piece (at the bottom) worked well. It's also my binding which moved more of it out of my stash.

Overall, I'm quite please with this year's RSC quilt, and would make the blocks again, though probably in a different year. I really should come up with something different for 2022!

Happy Quilting and hope you join in on RSC2022!

Midweek Makers 311

Welcome to Midweek Makers! I know it's that hectic week before Christmas, but do share if you can!

I've completed my RSC2021 quilt but saving the share till next week. I will say it turned out well and I'd probably do blocks like those again.

Being on the subject of scraps, these shares caught my eye last week:

from Melva Loves Scraps, these scrappy placemats,

from Den syende himmel, this scrappy quilt,

and from My Quilts and Crafts, a cute little baby quilt.

Now it's your turn - got something to share?
  • please link directly to your post
  • please link a quilt related item
  • visit the other guests and leave some comment love
Have fun!
