Grad Cap for the May Quilt Block Mania

Celebrating Grads this month with Quilt Block Mania!

half of a black grad cap with a red tassel

And what better way than with a red tasseled Grad Cap? I love that this block is showing just a portion of the cap, letting the tassel be the main focus. And the nice thing is, both cap and tassel color can be changed to suit the school, for a bit of added personalization for the grad's quilt - nice!

With our theme of graduation for the month of May, we were also given this Design Seeds color palette inspiration, along with black (thank goodness!), so that we would all have theme and color coordinated blocks.

Take a look at the graduation themed blocks my fellow Quilt Block Mania designers came up with.

Be sure to visit their sites to see their grad themed blocks this May! Keep in mind that these blocks may no longer be free. The designers reserve the right to offer their blocks for purchase after the initial one-month free period is over.

My Grad Cap block finishes at 12" x 12", and is composed of three fat quarter friendly colors. Stitched with easy paper piecing, it requires a bit of extra stitching for the tassel string. An optional button can be used in place of the appliqued circle to hold that tassel to the hat.

Update:
The Grad Cap quilt block pattern is now available in my Etsy shop
