Yeah! The day has finally arrived! Introducing Diamond Ribs,
my X-Block quilt for the X-Block Blog Hop, hosted by Amy of Sew Incredibly Crazy.
This is a slightly bigger than the originally posted version when I had everyone vote for their favorite layout.
The final quilt has three full rows of diamonds, ending with blue on each side. I wish I had more fabric to make enough blocks to finish off the diamonds on the top, but, it is what it is. Ultimately, some baby will love this! These blocks were made with strip sets and the X-Block ruler,
making this a really quick and easy quilt to put together.
But what I love most about this quilt is the quilting - check out that ribbing in the diamonds!
And guess what? I've got a video on how to quilt those ribs, which can be done on either a domestic or longarm machine - it's that easy!
This simple ribbing design combined with stippling in the blue, and one straight line in the red - WOW! Oh - can't forget the back. It's my trademark flannel cause I like those baby quilts to have a super soft side. And the binding was just squeaked out with the remaining few bits fabric. Boy was that close!

The day before I flew off on my vacation, I squeezed in some calming quilting time and worked on the beginnings of a Hunter's Star quilt.
And that's as far as I got. Which really is pretty good, considering these are the tricky parts that really use the ruler.
The instructions for using the Rapid Fire Hunter's Star ruler are clear, with great diagrams for both left and right hand cutters. Plus there are instructions for 2, 3, and 4 colors in this quilt. How cool is that? All that's left is a bit of imagination!
Since this is my first time making a Hunter's Star, I choose to use the Basic Recipe in 2 colors, blue and white.
Can you tell this will probably end up being another baby quilt?? Still need to build up the stock of boy quilts! So, when I'm recovered from jet lag, I'll proceed with the next steps in making the Hunter's Star by attaching the trapezoid units to some HST's. Then I'll be off and running with blocks, and before you know it, a quilt top! That really is Rapid Fire!
May has rolled around for a new Book of the Month selection. The honor goes to a book I've had on the desk for a couple months - the Precut Primer (affiliate link) from Me and My Sister Designs.
I will admit that my stash contains mostly fat quarters and charm squares in the way of precuts. Otherwise, it's yardage that occupies my space! But no one said I couldn't take that yardage and cut it up into precut sizes. So, I'm curious: what precut do you favor, and why? Are you mad for fat quarters, jelly rolls, layer cakes, charm squares, or mini charms? Or are you like me, with a lot of yardage that can be cut up? I guess in the end, it's all fabric, but a precut sure makes for a fast project!
