Midweek Makers #444

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

This week I have a client quilt to share. Denise is a prolific quilter, donating several of her quilts for fund raising, many of which I've been lucky to quilt for her. This time, the quilt is a gift for her grandson, a lovely woven design made with flannel.

This week I'm featuring some in-progress quilts, where you can read about the design decisions and maybe add a suggestion.

From Vicki's Crafts and Quilting, a fall panel is getting some borders,

Scrapbox Quilts is working hard on enlarging border blocks,

and Crafts, Cavies, and Cooking is working on a feather block layout.

Midweek Makers #443

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

It's certainly beach weather right now, with all this heat we're having. Who wouldn't love a dip in the ocean or a swimming pool right now? If you're not near water, at least you could keep cool stitching blocks with So Scrappy's RSC 2024 color, aquamarine. I'm lucky enough to have done both, adding a shoe box of aquamarine prints to my design wall.

Little Penguin Quilts also stitched up an aquamarine block,

Not Afraid of Color showed off her RSC blocks so far, with an aquamarine one sure to follow,

and Pachouli Moon Quilts shared a green string quilt, which has a few strips of aquamarine in it.

Midweek Makers #442

Welcome to Midweek Makers! Happy 4th of July!

I haven't looked to see if the new monthly RSC2024 color is out yet, so I guess I'll have to wait till next week to show any new blocks. In the meantime, I stitched up one blue broken dishes block to finish off June's blue. Kinda boring.

But wait! I have progress to share on my scrap storage quilt. Check out my scrap bins!

Looks like I have a lot of blocks but it's only about a third of the quilt. With so many more blocks needed, one would think I'd really be clearing out those scraps. NOT!! Good thing there's still a lot of colors and holiday fabric left to stitch.

Did you check out the quilts from last week's party??? There were some real beauties - it was hard to choose those to highlight. But here they are:

from Patchouli Moon Studio, this adorable applique bear on a string block background,

from Julie's Quilts and Costumes, this beautiful rainbow orange peel,

and from Institches with Bonnie, this beauty.

Sorry to those whose blog links are not posted. For some reason, Blogger decides to make the link say 'null', though I have figured out how to enlarge the pictures again. I don't know what they did, but it's no fun going through several steps to achieve an easy task.

Anyway, what do you have to share this week? Join the party!

Book Shelf for July QBM

Ah, it's the time for a good summer beach read! In the mood for romance? Mysteries? Or my favorite, Historical Fiction? Come visit my Book Shelf for your next read or for real reading fun, check out Barnes and Noble's 80+ Best Beach Reads 2023.

In case you haven't guessed by now, the Quilt Block Mania theme this month is books. Wouldn't these make a great quilt for a favorite teacher?

Here's the list of where to find all these great book themed blocks - be sure to thank the creators!

Audio Book Quilt Block by Carolina Moore
EAT Cookbook by Patchwork Breeze
Tea and Books by Crafty Staci
Hedwig by Inquiring Quilter
The Library Quilt
Book Shelf by QuiltFabrication
Readers block by brown bird designs
Reading Bear by Colette Belt Designs
By the Book by Happy Hour Stitches
Garden Books
Bookworm by Appliques Quilts and More
Spruce Up Your Reading with a Free Bookmark Quilt Block
Retro Bookcase by Amanda Harris
Adventures of a Burlgar by Sondrasa of Art Quilts by Design
The English Patient by Flowerodg+Co
Under the Apple Tree by Epida Studio
Stack of Books by Oh Kaye Quilting
Read Banned Books by Beth Clifton
Open Book by Manderley Makes
Adventure Awaits
Book Lover by Cristy Fincher

As for my Book Shelf, it's got a mix of paper backs, hard backs, classics and contemporary, maybe even a cookbook. Sure, you can see all that, right??? Imagination aside, these books are pieced using classic piecing techniques, plus a bit of foundation paper piecing for the leaning book. Paper piecing is awesome for helping to get those tough angles a block requires!

The Book Shelf block is listed as for the confident beginner quilter, who has some knowledge of paper piecing. This is a good block to learn on if you're new to the technique. As usual, fat quarters are all that's needed for one block.

Book Shelf is a free download pattern now until August 5. Just click on the download button below for the PDF pattern file.

In downloading the pattern, you agree not to share the file with others, but direct them to the QuiltFabrication.com/Book Shelf post - thank you!
