Coming Soon - National Dog Day!

Heads up everyone - in just two weeks, we'll be celebrating our favorite fur baby - DOGS! August 26 is National Dog Day, and celebrating everyone's favorite pup!

This themed linky party was very popular last year, with an overwhelming response to make it a yearly event. And I'm happy to host everyone's adorable puppy, real or in fabric, again this year! Grab the button code on the sidebar or below to help spread the word - who can resist an adorable puppy???

grab button for Nat Dog Day
<div class="nat-dog-day-button" style="width: 150px; margin: 0 auto;"> <a href="https://www.quiltfabrication.com/" rel="nofollow"> <img src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eTPsSWuyohY/YQiFTC9KkmI/AAAAAAAAd9s/ySdB-3EQu8MFGnd3E6vXSIDlXKsBDyZygCLcBGAsYHQ/s0/Natl-Dog-Day-Linky-Party150.jpg" alt="Quiltfabrication" width="150" height="150" /> </a> </div>

Now, since all dogs need to be trained, the 'commands' for this dog-themed linky party are simple:

  • create a NEW dog-themed post about any or all of the following:
           - your beloved tail-wagging, fur-baby pup
           - a new dog-themed project your working on
           - a past dog-themed project
           - anything with a dog theme you would like to share

Just make sure it's a new post and about dogs - it is their day after all! And just like last year, there will be giveaways!

If you're a cat lover, you'll just have to sit this one out. Though I held a National Cat Day, October 29, linky party last year, I'm not sure about hosting another one this year. Sadly, participation was low, and the response to doing it as a yearly party was tepid. If you are interested in a party for National Cat Day, let me know, as I'd be happy to host, as I have two of my own to share.

Happy Quilting!

Midweek Makers 344

Welcome to Midweek Makers for another week of sharing!

I don't know about you, but August always makes me think of sunflowers. The deep, buttery yellows and burnished browns bring a bit of color into the yard as the greens of spring and summer fade, helping the transition to the beautiful yellows, oranges and reds of fall.

I've even started that transition in my home decor, placing my Sunflower runner in full view in the living room. Ah, the perfect spot!

Speaking of fall colors, check out this simple orange beauty I quilted for Robyn last week. I even managed to get the fantastic African themed fabric centered on the back.

Ok, enough of my stuff. Let's see a few from last week's party.

From Kathy's Quilting Blog, a pretty Pumpkins and the Beanstalks quilt finish,

from Julie's Quilts and Costumes, some pretty Lemoyne Stars,

and from Sew Preeti Quilts, this wonderful mini challenge.

Now it's time for the party - come share what you're working on!

Midweek Makers 343

Welcome to Midweek Makers - let's share some summer stitching!

For me, I have great news to share! I got to spend time sewing last week, making progress on the RSC2022 project. Here's a peek at the layout:

Now I know you're probably thinking it's too early for the layout - there's still 3 more months of colors to sew. And I thought I would continue to sew more blocks in those colors until I pulled out what I had leftover from previous years and put the blocks on the wall.

Well, I got caught up in a very modern, freeform placement and decided to stick with it. I just needed 3-5 small blocks to fill in the blanks and a lot of white-on-white prints for the background to create a very unusual piece. Hopefully, I'll have this done in 2-3 weeks, time permitting, then I can share more.

I also want to give everyone a heads up - the very popular National Dog Day linky party is happening again this year, on August 26. Get your dog themed projects or your dog on quilts ready for the show!

For now, let's see some projects from last week.

From DonnaleeQ, a pretty neutral flimsy that is almost done,

the very modern blue creation from My Quilts and Crafts,

and a lovely forest of trees from Quilting Gail.

Now it's your turn - what do you have to share?

  • please link directly to your post
  • please link a quilt related item
  • visit with the other guests and leave some comment love
Have fun!

Palm Leaf for August Quilt Block Mania

How about we spend some time in the jungle this month?

Yes, that's the theme for the August Quilt Block Mania free block, and I've designed a Palm Leaf to set everyone in the mood! Can't you just image walking through the jungle and being tapped on the shoulder by these huge palm leaves? Of course, there's a ton of other things that may visit you - let's see what the other designers came up with.

Here's the color palette we worked from, if you would like to add supporting blocks that would coordinate with those from the designers. Nice selection, huh?

And here's the list of links for collecting those blocks this month. Be sure to thank the designers for providing blocks for a fun themed jungle quilt!

Hippo Quilt Block by Carolina Moore
Emerald Tree Boa from Inflorescence
Tiger at Duck Creek Mountain Quilting
Snakes, Slugs and Snails at Scrapdash
Stacked jungle animals by Appliques Quilts and More
Palm Leaf by QuiltFabrication
Margaritaville by Inquiring Quilter
Chameleon Block by BoBerry Design Co.
Monkey Business at Patti's Patckwork
Tropical Bloom
Jungle Vines
Toucan Quilt Block by Purple Daisies Quilting
Teal Gorilla by Blue Bear Quilts

As has been my designing style lately, my Palm Leaf block features easy fusible applique, perfect for the confident beginner quilter. The curves are big, so cutting and stitching are pretty easy!

A fat quarter is needed for the background, plus two greens in the same size or scraps. And don't forget the fusible web! Full-sized reversed templates plus placement guides are included in the pattern to make this finished 12" block.

There are two ways to access the Palm Leaf block pattern download link via the QFab newsletter:

For those already subscribed - The free Palm Leaf block pattern link will be included in the August 16 QFab Monthly newsletter. There is no need to sign up again - just open and view the newsletter for the download link.

Now let's see those remaining six!
