Midweek Makers #411

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Has everyone has recovered from turkey and stuffing? How about holiday shopping? Anyone pick up some quilt related deals? I'm got through both, taking advantage of a deal on batting and some fabric for future projects. Once my back recovers a bit more, I hope to do more sewing.

Though the Midweek Makers badge is winter themed this week, I'm giving one last hurrah to fall with the following autumn themed quilts from last week.

From Not Afraid of Color, this colorful leaf wall hanging,

and the next two from Melva Loves Scraps: an adorable leaf mini-quilt,

and little turkey, full personality!

I'll be looking for Christmas and Hanukkah quilts over the next month - share 'em if you have 'em!

Midweek Makers #410

Welcome to Midweek Makers and a big Happy Thanksgiving!

I stitched up another block last week, but you can't see it till Tuesday when the new Quilt Block Mania block comes out. I'll think you'll love it! Otherwise, I've spent my time back at the computer, designing and getting ready for RSC2024 starting in January. Can't wait for the start of the new year to hopefully get my medical issues behind me.

There were some very pretty quilts last week - did you check them out? If not, here's my three favorites:

from Pinker n Punkin Quilting, Butterfly Kisses from Heaven.

Here's the third Sweet Tweet block from DonnaleeQ,

and last but not least, this Paducah Log Cabin from Dragon's Heart Quilting.

Midweek Makers #409

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

I did a smidge of sewing, keeping track of the time I'm sitting as I'm allowed 50% of an hour. Here's my test creation, a scrap bin.

I'm thinking of making more and coming up with a quilt design - we shall see!

How about these beauties from last week? Grace and Peace shared this easy quilt pattern using Japanese fabrics,

Making a Lather is almost finished with this in-progress Sweet Pea top,

and from Bell Creek Quilts, some very fun scrappy huts for RSC2023. I love this idea and may have to make some of my own for next years RSC.

Midweek Makers #408

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Good news - I went driving last week. Granted it was under 35mph on residential streets, but baby steps. Not at all ready for the big time yet, that will be a couple months. But at least I can get to the store if I need to.

As for sewing, I'd love to and probably could given I can drive. Problem is, my fabric is difficult to get to because it's in heavy bins on the floor. I'll just have to content myself stitching scraps to make crumb blocks for awhile since I can easily get to those 1 gallon zip lock bags. Baby steps again.

Just want to let everyone know I so appreciate the link ups each week - gives me great eye candy! So let's see some fall creations:

from Vicki's Crafts and Quilting, a pumpkin and cat wall hanging,

Donnaleeq stitched up a pumpkin and cat runner,

and Quilting and Learning creating some swirling leaves.

Hand Mixer for November Quilt Block Mania

Quilt Block Mania is heading to the kitchen this month in preparation for all the holiday cooking. And a kitchen isn't complete without a Hand Mixer!

When something needs mixing, instead of hauling out the heavy stand mixer, I'll grab my Hand Mixer. It's small size comes in so handy to mash potatoes, whip egg whites, mix a small cake, put together a batch of cookies, etc, etc - the list goes on and on!

Of course, the Hand Mixer isn't the only wonder-tool in the kitchen - take a look at these other kitchen gadgets designed by my fellow quilters.

All of these blocks are free for the month of November. Be sure to thank the designers for their fun kitchen themed blocks!

A little about constructing my Hand Mixer. The block is all applique, requiring 4 color coordinating fat quarters for one block. Use fusible web and a light box to make tracing and placement easier and is perfect for those beginners wanting to try applique!

The Hand Mixer block is available for free until December 4, 2023. Just click on the download button below for the PDF pattern file.

In downloading the pattern, you agree not to share the file with others, but direct them to the QuiltFabrication.com/Hand Mixer post - thank you!

Midweek Makers #407

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Happy to report that at 6 weeks post surgery, I'm doing really well. Next week is the doctor appt which includes x-rays to check on progress. And hopefully, I'll be able to ditch the massive brace I need to wear. I'm getting there!

So, did everyone check out the quilts from last week? Here's three that caught my eye:
from Grace and Peace, this Petra quilt,

a kaleidoscope finish for Not Afraid of Color,

and a Happy Endings quilt from With Strings Attached.

Maple Twist Quilt

I'm excited to introduce a new fall quilt, Maple Twist!

quilt of red, yellow, orange maple leaves on a green backgroun

If you haven't heard, I love fall colors! All the red, orange and yellow landing on a green background, is so reminiscent of falls leaves littering the grass, right?

The Maple Twist quilt pattern uses a single block to make up several quilt sizes, featuring the shown lap size (52″ x 64″), plus a twin (64" x 88"), and a queen size (88" x 100").

Construction is super easy, especially if cutting is done in bulk, along with stitching units in groups. That makes Maple Twist a perfect project for the beginner quilter!

As for the quilting, I got a bit creative as I couldn't find a pantograph that conveyed the feeling of floating, swirling leaves. So I decided to modify one of my favorites, Passion Fruit. Where there was a flower, I re-drew a maple leaf. You can see the new leaf in the circle in the quilting closeup.

Turned out just the way I wanted it!

For those of you wanting to enjoy your own Maple Twist quilt this season, use the coupon code 'FALLCOLORS' at Etsy checkout for 25% off. This coupon is valid now through November 10, 2023.

Happy Quilting!

Midweek Makers #406

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

It is seriously pumpkin time! Did you hear that the winner of the 2023 Pumpkin Weigh Off in Half Moon Bay was a record breaking 2749 pounds? Incredible!

Since I'm partial to pumpkins, especially my Pumpkat Patch runner and it's companion piece, Pumpkin Peek-a-Boo, I also like pumpkins a bit more modern. That's the Pumpkin applique block, an easy to make applique block for any project.

As a little pumpkin treat, now thru midnight October 31, 2023, the Pumpkin applique block plus ALL off my block patterns are 25% off - no coupon code necessary. Enjoy!

Let's take a look at a few features from last week's party? Making a Lather used leftover blocks to make a second quilt,

Vicki's Crafts and Quilting finished up some UFO's,

and Scrapbox Quilts made this adorable turkey just in time for the holidays.

Midweek Makers #405

Welcome to Midweek Makers! I'm back!!!

Now 4 weeks post-surgery, I am feeling pretty good. Being forced to eliminate some daily obligations has allowed me to rest and restore - I'm even getting some quilt creativity back and I can't wait to start cutting and sewing some of the projects I've been designing. It is such a great feeling!

I even felt well enough to go to PIQF.

With the help of my wonderful husband and a walker with a seat, we enjoyed a few hours viewing lovely quilts and doing some shopping. I got fabrics to add to the Halloween stash, and some fabrics for an upcoming project.

I'm also back to the Midweek Makers tradition of highlighting a few projects from the previous party. This week, each one features one of my favorite things:

a lovely autumn project from Bastelhexe's Kreative,

a wonderful scrap quilt from With Strings Attached,

and a combo of two of my favorites, pumpkins and cats, from Time 4 Stitchin.

Come join this week's party - would love to see what you're working on!

Midweek Makers #404

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Recovery from lumbar fusion is going well, especially after a second round of steroids to relieve nighttime sciatic pain on the other side. Most of my days are spent reading or streaming Suits - lots of resting. Maybe in a few weeks I can do more.

With Halloween soon upon us, this week I'm sharing a new Halloween themed block. Who's up for an applique Spider Web block?

Feeling in the mood for Halloween back in August, I designed this block for fun and applique ease. And it can be printed in 3 block sizes - 8, 10, 12 - with instructions on how to enlarge and print.

Find the Spider Web block in my Etsy Shop along with other runners and quilts to make for Halloween.

Now join us for this week's party!
