Midweek Makers #415

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Hubby is off work for the week, which means anything related to quilting doesn't happen. Hoping to get into the swing of things in January, especially RSC2024.

Meanwhile, here's few shares from last week. Making a Lather finished her old world fantasy mystery quilt,

Melva Loves Scraps shared a very adorable mini of trees,

and A Scrappy Quilter shared on of her star and 16-patch baby quilt presents.

Midweek Makers #414

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

I'm still doing a lot of last minute shopping, being careful with how much I drive. Long distances put pressure on my back muscles, which the PT guy says should resolve over time. Certainly hope so! Otherwise, everything is going well.

With the holidays upon us, I'm highlighting a few Christmas projects seen here last week. From Not Afraid of Color, some red and green star blocks,

from Bell Creek Quilts, a fun angel project,

and from Time 4 Stitchin, a gnome-y Christmas tree.

Midweek Makers #413

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Absolutely no quilting happening here - it's all about shopping, finding the perfect gifts for family. But on a fun note, Happy Birthday to a shining star, Taylor Swift!

Speaking of stars, how about these two star themed quilt projects from last week?

Rebecca Grace Quilting added a pretty pantograph to Mary's Stars,

and Eagle's Wings Quilts mixed a panel with stars for this quilt.

Midweek Makers #412

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Guess what? I quilted my first client quilt since surgery! A big step, and an easy one too, given that it was a nice sized baby quilt. The pantograph Amphibian in Glide's Cleopatra gold thread was a great choice for this one.

I'm also happy to see some holiday projects shared last week - take a look at these:

Vicki's Quilts and Crafts whipped up this wall hanging from a panel,

Bell Creek Quilts finished a free guild project just right for the holidays,

and a Scrappy Quilter shared some adorable woolly friends.

Snowy Forest for December Quilt Block Mania

How better to wrap up the year with a Snowy Forest quilt block?

a quilt block with 3 snow covered trees

Thanks to the Quilt Block Mania 'forest' theme this month, I went with snow to make it a perfect block for December.

Take a look at all the other 'forest' themed blocks from my quilt designer friends.

These are free for December 2023. After that, the designers reserve the rights to continue to offer them for free or as a paid pattern. So get them while they last!

Owl by Carolina Moore
Silent Witness by Inquiring Quilter
Forest by Inflorescense Designs
Forest Tree by Scrap Dash
Bear Paw by Epida Studio
Snowy Forest by QuiltFabrication
The Grove by Patti's Patchwork
Mushroom by Penny Spool Quilts
Reindeer by Crafty Staci
Christmas Tree Farm
Enchanted Forest by Sew Worthy Mama
Wolves by Paleofish Designs
Fat Bear Week by Sallys Sewing Circle
Chipmunk by Katie Mae Quilts
Fox by Appliques and More
Heart of Oak by Flowerdog+Co
Snowman by Colette Belt Designs
Mountain Forest by Oh Kaye Quilting
Starry Sky by Patchwork Breeze

In order to easily deal with the angles in my Snowy Forest block, foundation piecing is required. It's pretty easy to make the trees and the snow, with 5-6 pieces each. And again, fat quarters and foundation paper are all that's needed to make one block. I just love how the snow banks turned out!

One foundation piecing pattern is included in the Snowy Forest pattern. You'll need to print three, but print as many as you like. Then just follow the numbering and coloring on the templates to make the trees - easy peasy! The finished block measures 12" x 12", a nice size to foundation piece.

The Snowy Forest block is currently unavailable. But feel free to tell others about QuiltFabrication and become a follower yourself through any or all of the following: direct delivery of posts to your inbox (sign up below), or by following on PinterestInstagramFacebook, or YouTube.

Happy Quilting!

Midweek Makers #411

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Has everyone has recovered from turkey and stuffing? How about holiday shopping? Anyone pick up some quilt related deals? I'm got through both, taking advantage of a deal on batting and some fabric for future projects. Once my back recovers a bit more, I hope to do more sewing.

Though the Midweek Makers badge is winter themed this week, I'm giving one last hurrah to fall with the following autumn themed quilts from last week.

From Not Afraid of Color, this colorful leaf wall hanging,

and the next two from Melva Loves Scraps: an adorable leaf mini-quilt,

and little turkey, full personality!

I'll be looking for Christmas and Hanukkah quilts over the next month - share 'em if you have 'em!

Midweek Makers #410

Welcome to Midweek Makers and a big Happy Thanksgiving!

I stitched up another block last week, but you can't see it till Tuesday when the new Quilt Block Mania block comes out. I'll think you'll love it! Otherwise, I've spent my time back at the computer, designing and getting ready for RSC2024 starting in January. Can't wait for the start of the new year to hopefully get my medical issues behind me.

There were some very pretty quilts last week - did you check them out? If not, here's my three favorites:

from Pinker n Punkin Quilting, Butterfly Kisses from Heaven.

Here's the third Sweet Tweet block from DonnaleeQ,

and last but not least, this Paducah Log Cabin from Dragon's Heart Quilting.

Midweek Makers #409

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

I did a smidge of sewing, keeping track of the time I'm sitting as I'm allowed 50% of an hour. Here's my test creation, a scrap bin.

I'm thinking of making more and coming up with a quilt design - we shall see!

How about these beauties from last week? Grace and Peace shared this easy quilt pattern using Japanese fabrics,

Making a Lather is almost finished with this in-progress Sweet Pea top,

and from Bell Creek Quilts, some very fun scrappy huts for RSC2023. I love this idea and may have to make some of my own for next years RSC.

Midweek Makers #408

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Good news - I went driving last week. Granted it was under 35mph on residential streets, but baby steps. Not at all ready for the big time yet, that will be a couple months. But at least I can get to the store if I need to.

As for sewing, I'd love to and probably could given I can drive. Problem is, my fabric is difficult to get to because it's in heavy bins on the floor. I'll just have to content myself stitching scraps to make crumb blocks for awhile since I can easily get to those 1 gallon zip lock bags. Baby steps again.

Just want to let everyone know I so appreciate the link ups each week - gives me great eye candy! So let's see some fall creations:

from Vicki's Crafts and Quilting, a pumpkin and cat wall hanging,

Donnaleeq stitched up a pumpkin and cat runner,

and Quilting and Learning creating some swirling leaves.

Hand Mixer for November Quilt Block Mania

Quilt Block Mania is heading to the kitchen this month in preparation for all the holiday cooking. And a kitchen isn't complete without a Hand Mixer!

When something needs mixing, instead of hauling out the heavy stand mixer, I'll grab my Hand Mixer. It's small size comes in so handy to mash potatoes, whip egg whites, mix a small cake, put together a batch of cookies, etc, etc - the list goes on and on!

Of course, the Hand Mixer isn't the only wonder-tool in the kitchen - take a look at these other kitchen gadgets designed by my fellow quilters.

All of these blocks are free for the month of November. Be sure to thank the designers for their fun kitchen themed blocks!

Broken Dishes by Epida Studio
Hello Cupcake by Colette Belt Designs

A little about constructing my Hand Mixer. The block is all applique, requiring 4 color coordinating fat quarters for one block. Use fusible web and a light box to make tracing and placement easier and is perfect for those beginners wanting to try applique!

Sorry, but the Hand Mixer block is temporarily unavailable.
