Making Connections Free Motion Quilting

Today kicks off the Making Connections Free Motion Quilting Workbook (affiliate link) Blog Hop!

I'm thrilled to be participating in this hop, and have started one quilt top using the designs in Making Connections - A Free Motion Quilting Workbook (affiliate link).

Since I had the house to myself this weekend (though blazing hot outside - 105!), I jumped right into the quilting. Here's one of the corner areas.

quilting design using the Making Connections-A Free Motion Quilting Workbook

Isn't that oh-so-pretty?! Certainly brings on the ohh's and ahh's!

Would you like to see the creation of this design live and in action in another area of the quilt?? Then take a look at the following video to see how simple these designs are to stitch!

Just a taste of what's possible with these designs, easily stitched with a longarm or domestic machine. Ready to give them a try?

Happy Quilting!

  1. I mostly quilt with a longarm but use my domestic machine to add detail to what I've done on the longarm. I also use my domestic machine to quilt small projects.

  5. No long arm here, except for the two that are attached to my hands! So far, all of my quilting has been done by me on my domestic!

  6. I use my domestic machine for it all. I must say the quilting part is not as enjoyable to me as the piecing is.

  7. Hi Susan,
Happy Labor Day to you and your family. I would love to get more into FMQ on my domestic machine. So far I've only managed straight/curved stitching with my walking foot. I will follow this hop with interest. ~smile~ Roseanne

  14. what a great video you make it look so easy though I did have a go on a long arm at a quilt show at the weekend and it was definately much easier than the domestic machine. Will check to see if the book is available here in the UK usually it takes a while to get books here

  25. I quilt with a domestic machine, usually with the walking foot. I don't have the confidence yet to use free motion-the spirit is willing but the hands can't quite get there! I loved the video!

  32. I quilt with my Bernina QE, but have an old Gammill short arm waiting for some repairs, and hope to have it going in a few weeks, The video makes those curves look so easy, and a book to guide along the way would be such an asset to have and refer to for help and patterns.

  33. That quilting is so beautiful! Boy, I sure could use that book. I agonize over how to quilt every one I make. I started one the other day, hated the quilting and ripped it out! Here's hoping!
