Hold It Together

Happy National Paperclip Day!

Hold It Together paperclip wall hanging

Yes, today, May 29, celebrates the humble paperclip, that indispensable office supply!

Silly, I know, but I was truly inspired to make these fun, colorful paperclips. And you can take this wall hanging as seriously as you want!!

Maybe you see the humor in the statement, or maybe it really represents our busy lives - either way, Hold It Together is entertaining! If you totally relate, there's a pattern so you make your own, available at Craftsy and Etsy.

Made with applique paperclips and lettering, the arrangement can be however you want. I chose to link the paperclips around in a circle, but they could be formed into a chain, or even a heap - the possibilities are endless!

And now for some closeups. Yes, I went hog wild on the quilting - it was so liberating to just doodle all sorts of designs.

More closeups to show cause the areas are so different!

Here's a super close-up shot.

BTW, I used a 14 stitches per inch setting, and probably could have gone smaller. For reference, all of my other quilts use 10 stitches per inch.

The border has simple piano keys, whose lines are duplicated on each side. This allows for all of the attention to be on the pretty quilting in the center.

And don't you just love how black attracts all sorts of fuzz?

So if your feeling the love for all that paperclips represent, head on over to Craftsy and Etsy to get started on your own!

Happy National Paperclip Day!

  1. This would look awesome on the wall of a supply room. It's also a great work mantra to repeat on Mondays :)

  4. Hi Susan,
What a fun wall hanging! At first I didn't realize there was a border until I saw the quilting picture. I love the piano keys and especially the corner that looks like it is pointing to the center. The paperclips themselves are so colorful and fun! This is adorable. Thank you for the closeups of your quilting! Happy Tuesday! ~smile~ Roseanne

  6. This is really fun. Working for many years in the secretarial field, I would've loved this on my office wall (especially all those years as a legal secretary). Your quilting is really fun too! Makes those clips just pop!

  10. Oh my word! This is awesome, I wish I'd thought of it! In fact I am plenty tempted to buy this pattern and that happens very infrequently. I could do with this in my work space.
BTW a sticky clothes lint roller makes short work of that fluff. xx

    1. The idea of honoring paperclips is just so silly - I had to jump on it! And yet, June 1 is Donut Day, and I'm uninspired.
