I'm celebrating with my newest runner, Whatamelon!
Yep, I'm a fan of watermelon, especially on a hot day. There's just something about the refreshing sweetness of a juicy watermelon! Believe it or not, I wasn't a fan as a kid, but I sure am now!
How about you? Would you like a slice?
All yardage given is used for the watermelon, including the melon rind fabric on the back,
and for the binding. It's amazing what a yard will do!
The applique is easy-peasy (on Monday I'll show a fast trick for cutting out multiple applique pieces), and really completes the melon.
Quilting is simple too - a medium stipple works great for the watermelon insides.
Because I wanted the melon ends rounded and puffy, I left that area empty of quilting, except around the lines.
So creative, I've always seen crafty treasures made as a round watermelon and not a Carolina Cross.. (elongated). Love it!

ReplyDeleteThis is adorable, Susan! Great job! This is the kind of watermelon I like best - in a quilt. When I was 16 my dad raised 40 acres. Of course we "accidentally" broke our share when picking them. By the time summer was over, I was so sick of watermelon - I didn't eat one for 20 years, really and truly. I only occasionally eat them now! LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Susan! This runner turned out just great. Not only is that fabric perfect for the watermelon but the rind fabric represents well too. I would love a slice, and would have to call my cousins and tell them how far I could spit a seed. I never was the best at that - oh well! HAHA~ Happy Friday! ~smile~ Roseanne

ReplyDeleteThat watermelon runner is so stinkin' CUTE! I love the solid green "veins" appliqued over the skin fabric. The ric rac is a nice touch, too. But "Watermelon Day?!" There are too many holidays. I'm going to start making up holidays of my own, just to be obnoxious -- things like National Free Your Nipples Day when I don't have to wear a bra, Sleep 'Til Noon Day (self-explanatory; probably will schedule that one for a Monday), and Slap A Stranger Day. That could be dangerous, though... Will have to choose my stranger carefully... TOTALLY KIDDING, just so we're clear! :-)
