It's here - National Dog Day - the day to celebrate dogs! Come link up your posts about those special dogs in your life, real or in fabric!
Over the last week, I had a litter of my own - in fabric, that is. Meet the Good Dog, a block pattern now available in my QuiltFabriction Etsy shop.
Aren't these just too cute? I had fun with the colorings - there's the classic white and black dog,
a grey/black dog with a white chest,
and a cream/brown dog, also with a white chest, to round out the litter.
Per hubby's request, I made the Good Dog ears floppy, choosing to stitch a pink fabric to the underside then stitching the ear just at the top. Of course, the ears could easily have been fused down.
As for the size, the Good Dog quilt block measures in at 12.5" wide and 10.75" tall. As blocks, I think their heads look a bit pointed and their paws too big, so I sewed some background at the top and bottom for a better sense of the Good Dog's proportions.
Just too darn cute!!
These pups have made me so happy over the last week! The Good Dog block was something I drew up years ago, and now could finally make after purchasing the Crafters Edge 3.5" and 6.5" Drunkards Path dies, plus a 7" ruler. Of course, those rulers and dies aren't necessary as the pattern includes templates for them.

Though I have cats, I do have a grandpuppy, Po. He currently lives in Boston but will be moving to Durham, NC in a few months. Here he is at his birthday last December, wearing the bandana I made him to celebrate his special day.
