Watermelon Wedge

Happy Watermelon Day!

I can't believe how everything aligned today! Not only is it National Watermelon Day but it's also time for a new block from Quilt Block Mania, which happens to have a picnic/BBQ theme this month. Little did I know a couple months ago that my idea of a watermelon block to fit the theme would also coincide with Watermelon Day!

If you've been a follower for awhile, you'll know I like watermelon themed quilts. Last year, I celebrated Watermelon Day not only with watermelon-inspired dishes, but I also decorated with my Watermelon Twist runner,

my Watermelon Delight lap quilt to sit upon,

and my Whatamelon runner, which stayed inside. These added decorations make it such a fun summer holiday to celebrate!

I'm also fortunate that the August QBM block used the Press Play color palette from Design Seeds, as it contains the red and green necessary for watermelon.

Take a look at the other adorable picnic/BBQ themed blocks this month.

As for me, I have a new block, Watermelon Wedge to play with!

These watermelon wedges may look complicated to assemble, but they're really very easy, suitable for the confident beginner quilter. The pinwheel design of this block is composed of four wedges, and for one finished 12" block, fat quarters are all that's needed.
